March 24, 2023 is a date the people of Rolling Fork and Sharkey County will never forget. That evening, a powerful EF-4 tornado tore through the heart of the community, leaving behind a level of destruction that was almost impossible to describe. Homes were flattened, businesses were reduced to rubble, and lives were changed in an instant.
More than a year later, the recovery continues. It has not been a straight path. There have been setbacks, supply chain delays, and the emotional weight of rebuilding from scratch. But the people here have not given up. What stands out most to visitors and volunteers is the spirit of the place. Neighbors help neighbors. Strangers show up with tools and food. The phrase "community is better and stronger" is not just a slogan here. It is something people live out every day.
New housing is going up. Local leaders are working on long-term plans for infrastructure and economic revival. The scars are still visible, but so is the determination. Rolling Fork is not just rebuilding what was lost. It is trying to build something that can withstand the next storm, both physically and spiritually. The road is long, but the people are walking it together.
