Some vendors in Grant Park are expressing concerns that the rise in special events and festivals is negatively impacting their businesses. According to several local merchants, the influx of large gatherings, while beneficial for some, has led to a significant decline in foot traffic during regular operating hours.
Many vendors rely on consistent patronage from both locals and tourists who frequent the park. However, with the scheduling of numerous events, they find themselves competing for attention and sales. Some business owners have reported that the increased congestion and limited access to their stalls during these events have forced them to reconsider their future in the area.
One vendor stated, “It’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain our sales when events take over the park. We’re starting to think it might be time to call it quits.” As the debate continues, many vendors are calling for a reevaluation of the event scheduling to ensure a balance that supports both the park's vibrancy and their livelihoods.
