Losing my 222-day Wordle streak was painful

Losing my 222-day Wordle streak was painful

For 222 days, my morning routine revolved around a single five-letter word. I woke up, grabbed my phone, and solved the Wordle puzzle before I even brushed my teeth. The green and yellow tiles became a small but reliable victory to start the day. I planned travel around it. I avoided staying up too late in case I forgot to play before midnight. The streak was a quiet badge of honor, a daily proof that I could focus and follow through.

Then, last Tuesday, I broke it. I was distracted, tired, and made a careless guess on the third try. The game flashed a gray "0" for my streak. I stared at the screen, feeling a mix of shock and genuine loss. It sounds ridiculous to mourn a game, but that number had become part of my identity. For a few hours, I felt a hollow ache, like I had let myself down.

But by the afternoon, something shifted. Without the streak, the pressure vanished. I played the next day without checking my stats. I made a wild guess and laughed when it failed. The game became fun again, not a chore. Losing that streak was painful, but it also reminded me that a small daily habit should bring joy, not anxiety. Sometimes, breaking a chain is the only way to feel free.
