I grew up in a tight-knit, low-income building. After four years at an Ivy League school, coming home has left me feeling completely lost. The transition from the prestigious halls of academia back to my childhood neighborhood has been jarring. While my education has opened doors to new opportunities, it has also created a sense of disconnection from my roots.
Returning to my family’s modest apartment, I am surrounded by familiar faces and memories, yet I feel like a stranger in my own home. The achievements I worked so hard for now seem to create a divide between me and my community. Conversations that once flowed easily now feel strained, as I grapple with the complexities of my identity.
The stark contrast between my experiences at university and my life back home has left me questioning where I truly belong. As I navigate this uncertain phase, I am searching for ways to bridge the gap between my past and future, hoping to find a sense of purpose and connection once again.
