A popular kayak and camping outfitter in Brownsboro is slowly recovering after heavy rains over the weekend pushed floodwaters through its property. TGL Adventures, which offers rentals and guided trips along the Tennessee River, spent Monday pumping water out of storage sheds and assessing damage to equipment.
Sunday's downpour brought more than four inches of rain to parts of the Tennessee Valley, causing creeks to swell and low-lying areas to flood. For the small business, it was a familiar setback. The same location flooded during severe storms last spring, forcing owners to replace several kayaks and camping gear.
"We thought we were in the clear for the season," said the owner, who was busy drying out life jackets and checking hulls for cracks. "But we are resilient. We will be open again, just maybe not on our usual schedule."
Despite the mess, the business plans to offer limited rentals starting this weekend, weather permitting. The team is focusing on the upper launch site, which stayed dry, and will run shorter trips until the main dock is safe.
Local customers have already offered to help with cleanup. The owner said that support is what keeps the business going. For now, TGL Adventures is taking reservations by phone only and asking guests to check the forecast before heading out.
