Local business owner Darrell Windsor files for seat on Sitka Assembly

Sitka business owner Darrell Windsor has officially filed to run for a seat on the Sitka Assembly. The announcement came on Wednesday, adding another name to the growing list of candidates for the upcoming municipal election.

Windsor, who owns Sitka Appliance Repair, is a familiar face in local civic circles. He has served on the Sitka Planning Commission for many years, giving him direct experience with land use decisions, zoning regulations, and long-term community development. In a brief statement, Windsor said his time on the commission showed him how important it is to have practical voices on the assembly, especially when it comes to balancing growth with the needs of working families.

He also pointed to his background as a small business owner as a key strength. Windsor said he understands the challenges of running a business in a remote community, from supply chain issues to hiring and keeping staff. He wants to bring that perspective to budget talks and economic policy discussions.

The filing period for assembly seats remains open, and more candidates are expected to step forward in the coming days. Windsor's entry sets up what could be a competitive race, with several incumbents and newcomers already signaling interest. The election is scheduled for October, and voters will decide who fills the open seats on the assembly.
